Accessible web content is easy to use and easy to understand. When content is provided online at least in text format, it can be listened to if needed. Comprehension can also be improved—for example, by using video or by adding illustrative images.

In the design and technical implementation of online services, accessibility requirements must be considered so that the service works well for users with different needs. When an online service works reliably across different devices and with assistive technologies, those who create and publish content can focus on ensuring the accessibility of the content itself.

The Celia Library has produced a clear summary of how to create more accessible web content:

  1. Use clear language
  2. Make the text easy to scan
  3. Write descriptive headings
  4. Ensure the clarity of links
  5. Use images, infographics, and videos as needed

Attachments on Websites

If you publish attachments on websites, they must also be accessible. Typically, Word and PowerPoint files are converted into PDF format before publication.
