Recognition of competence
Recognition of degrees means the decision process about what kind of qualification the degree earned in other country will give to the person and the permit to practice the profession or to continue the education.

Different quarters are responsible for recognition process:
The Finnish national agency for education:

The national agency for education decides the qualification earned in other country to the certain profession or professional tasks where a certain level of education is required in order to practice the profession
The authorities in different professional fields, which decide the specific field required competence. As an example:

Trafi (Finnish transport safety agency)

Valvira ( National Supervisory authority for welfare and health)
The employees:

The employees can evaluate the worker´s previously earned competence when hiring them. The evaluation will take a place in job interview. This is allowed only if there no formal requirements type of educational degree based on legislation.
Universities and universities of applied sciences:

can decide the person´s eligibility to continue the studies,
-
can recognize the part of previously earned studies as a part of Finnish degrees.
