Editing material

You can edit material in Optima by

  1. editing an external file through Optima using the applications of your own computer;
  2. uploading a new version on top of an earlier file; or
  3. using tools provided as part of Optima.

Optima comes with version history, which means that old document versions can be used or deleted.

Material uploaded from your own computer

If you have an assignment in, say, Word format that you have uploaded from your own computer to Optima, you can edit it through Optima. Please note: The requirement is that your computer has an up-to-date Java driver.

  1. Click your assignment on the navigation on the left.
  2. Click ‘Edit‘ or the pencil icon at the top of the page .
  3. Click ‘Open document’ in the opening editing window.
  4. Application window (such as Word) opens and you can make the necessary changes to the text.
  5. Save the changes and return to Optima.
  6. After you have saved the changes, the following note appears on the Optima window: ‘Document uploaded, current version’. You can now close the application.

When you click your assignment again on the left margin, you can view the earlier versions of your document by clicking ‘Versions’.

Uploading a new version

If you are unable to do the editing in Optima directly, you can upload a new version on top of the old file as follows:

  1. Make the necessary changes to the file on you own computer.
  2. Go to Optima and click the name of the file on the left sidebar.
  3. Click the wheel icon next to the name and select ‘Upload a new version’.
  4. Pick the edited version of the assignment from your own computer (‘Browse’, ‘Find file’, ‘Open’).
  5. Click ‘Upload the chosen file from your computer’.
  6. The text ‘The database has been updated’ appears at the top of the page and the new version has now been uploaded to Optima.

Material produced with Optima’s own tools

If you have produced material with Optima’s own tools, such as the Light Web editor, you must also do the editing in Optima.

  1. Click the object you have created on the left margin.
  2. Click the pencil icon at the top of the page.
  3. Select Light Web editor (or the editor you have used for generating the object) as your editor.
  4. Make the changes and save the file.
