Tuition fees

Legislation concerning tuition fees obliges institutes in higher education to charge tuition fees from students outside European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) starting their studies in English in degree programmes in Finland from August 1st 2017.  The tuition fee grants the possibility to study, complete a degree in JAMK UAS degree programme and get the usual support services offered to other students as well. The tuition fee will be collected from all semesters and years for which a student has enrolled as an attending student.

The tuition fees of JAMK University of Applied Sciences for non-EU/EEA citizens are

  • €8,000/academic year for bachelor’s degrees taught in English (Nursing, International Logistics and International Business)
  • €9,000/academic year for master’s degrees taught in English (Cyber Security).

The students who are subjected to tuition fees, can apply a scholarship from JAMK UAS. The scholarships can be granted for the semesters and years the student has enrolled as attending.  The amount of the scholarship is 50% from the tuition fee for the first year of studies.  After that students must earn at least 55 credits per academic year in order to receive the scholarship that covers 50% of the tuition fee. The tuition fee will be charged from the possible extension period, but the scholarship does not cover a possible extension. It will be granted only for the standard study time, which is 3.5 years for International Business and Nursing, 4 years for Logistics and 2 years in Cyber Security (Master’s degree).

Paying tuition fee and applying the scholarship

First year students

At JAMK, all the first-year students, who are required to pay the tuition fee, will be granted a scholarship, which covers 50 % of the annual tuition fee. In the joint application, the scholarship application can be filled as a part of the application form at studyinfo.fi.

Applicants who are required to pay the tuition fee will receive the admission letter, scholarship decision and instructions how to pay 50 % of the first-years tuition fee by 30th of June 2017. The deadline to accept the study place, to pay the tuition fee and enroll for the academic year is 14 July 2017.

The admission of the student is conditional until:

  • the tuition fee is paid and JAMK has received a confirmation of the payment
  • the student has confirmed her/his study place
  • the student has enrolled for the academic year
  • the student has signed the Student Agreement
  • the student has provided and JAMK has checked the applicant’s original school-leaving diploma and other relevant certificates

JAMK University of Applied Sciences will withdraw the study right:

  • if the applicant does not pay the tuition fee by the given deadline
  • if the applicant does not enroll for the academic year

If the applicant does not provide the above-mentioned school and other relevant certificates JAMK withdraws the study place. The decision shall be notified to a student and to the Finnish immigration service. If a student who is required to pay a tuition fee does not receive a visa to study in Finland, the previously paid tuition fee is reimbursed. In this case, JAMK needs an official decision from the Finnish immigration service of the declined visa application before the tuition fee is paid back for the student.

After the first year

In the following academic years JAMK University of Applied Sciences will grant a scholarship, which covers 50 % of the tuition fee, if the student earns at least 55 credits per academic year.

A student should make a scholarship application for the next academic year by the 31st of May using JAMK’s own application form. By the same deadline (31st of May) a student pays 50 % of the next years’ tuition fee. On the 15th of August, Student Services Secretary checks, how many credits a student has completed during the previous academic year. If a student has completed 55 credits or more, one is granted a scholarship and she/he does not have to pay the rest of the tuition fee. If a student has completed less than 55 credits, one needs to pay the rest of the tuition fee by the 31st of August.
